City of Sacramento issued the following announcement on Oct. 21
As part of the City of Sacramento’s ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts, local workers now can access free job training and placement programs from 16 new providers.
The programs run through Dec. 30 and includes various levels of training in different employment fields based on the individual’s needs, including general job readiness, on-the-job training, paid-internship opportunities and direct job placement.
These new training/placement opportunities fall under the City’s overall Workforce Recovery program, which provides local workers affected by the pandemic an opportunity for training and job placement in technology, manufacturing, construction, health care and other career fields.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many Sacramento residents and families to significantly fall short economically, particularly having hours cut from work or loss of jobs all together,” said Workforce Development Manager Kriztina Palone. “Our Workforce Recovery Program portfolio of providers is one of the most extensive job training and placement efforts developed in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Sacramento region.”
The City’s Workforce Recovery program launched its first three programs in late September and is funded from the $89 million the City received in federal CARES Act funding.
“We must support our youth and young adults by equipping them with essential life skills and workforce training to enhance their ability to secure long term career success,” said Shanece Duncan of SACConnect Therapeutic & Wellness Services, one of the workforce program providers. “These programs are going to provide a vital service to youth and young adults in disadvantaged communities in the City of Sacramento, which will promote resiliency in times of crisis such as this global pandemic.”
“We have the opportunity to help city residents who are unemployed due to COVID get back to work,” said Amanda Reynaud of North State Building Industry Foundation, another program provider. “These programs connect community members to well-paying jobs and provide employers wage support for employee training ensuring that our local economy comes out on the better side of this pandemic.”
Below is a list of the providers:
- Youth job training: Bridge Network, SACConnect, Wind Youth Services, E49 and Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center
- General job training: California Employers Association, Community Against Sexual Harm, Sacramento Employment & Training Agency and Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada
- Trades & construction: California Mobility Center, Grid Alternatives North Valley, Northern California Construction Training, North State BIA Foundation, Plumbing-heating-cooling Contractors and People Working Together United
- Digital & tech: Clear Strategies, Greater Sacramento Economic Council and Greater Sacramento Urban League
- Health care: La Familia Counseling Center
