Hagginwood Elementary School issued the following announcement on Dec. 16
Our new electric school buses have arrived! Lion Electric delivered 10 new all-electric school buses to the Twin Rivers Transportation Yard on Dec. 16. With this delivery, TR has a total of 40 electric buses - the largest zero emission school bus fleet in the country.
“We started down the road of electrification four years ago, and the reception has been unanimously positive. Everyone from the drivers and maintenance staff, to the community, and most importantly students, have welcomed the possibilities of zero-emission buses and the health benefits that come with their adoption,” says Twin Rivers Unified School District Director of Transportation, Timothy Shannon.
To aid in distance learning, Lion supplied each of the 10 buses with hardware for Wi-Fi internet along with a year of service so that the buses can be used as Wi-Fi hubs for students who may lack access to internet at home. The buses were funded by the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Management Quality District. They have a range of 125 miles each and will eliminate on average 230 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
To celebrate the delivery, Lion Electric, in partnership with Twin Rivers, Raley’s Food for Families and Ozark Trucking, distributed 450 bags of groceries to TR families at Grant Union High School, Regency Park Elementary and Village Elementary on Dec. 16. The groceries were a nice surprise for families who visited their schools to pick up their daily meals from TRUSD Nutrition Services’ School Meals 2 Go program.
Thank you to everyone involved who helped make this food drive happen for our TR families!
